Lyn’s order for her Mom’s birthday celebration.

This is her 2nd pull apart cupcakes cake that she order from me, her first order was the most intricate pull apart design I’ve ever made, take a look in here Paw Patrol, this time I learned about Shòu, the Chinese character for Longevity. I wish I know about it earlier. When we used to live in Shanghai I met several expats that learned Chinese character and speak fluent Mandarin, I think its a fantastic thing to do while living in China. Apparently this character can be found on textiles, furniture, ceramics, jewelry and virtually every object conceivable, generally in its more attractive complex ideograph (壽) but also in its simplified (post-1950) form (寿). The ideograph may appear alone or be surrounded by flowers, bats, peach, gourd or other good luck symbols, but will always hold a central position.

Longevity is commonly recognized as one of the Five Blessings (wǔfú 五福 – longevity, wealth, health, love of virtue, a peaceful death) of Chinese belief that are often depicted in the homophonous rendition of five flying bats because the word for “bat” in Chinese (fú 蝠) sounds like the word for “good fortune” or “happiness” or in this case, “blessings”. In this arrangement, the shòu ideograph sometimes takes the dominant central position, replacing the fifth bat.

I really love my job, learning something new everyday.

Shòu shān fú hǎi.

Cowgirl Party

Jolijn is turning 5 years old and her Mama throw her an awesome cowgirl party!

The nicest customer ever, Amanda ordered the cupcakes with no particular request for the design, she just told me that she will be handing out cowgirl/cowboy hat to the party goers and i can do whatever I want for the cupcakes so I made cowgirl pink hat for the cupcake topper, some number 5 and Jolijn’s name. They were mini oreo cupcakes with buttercream frosting and several kind of sprinkles. One of my favorite project from this week and my daughter had a blast at Jolijn’s party too, enjoy the photos.

Aiko’s order for Yulia’s birthday celebration in her school. Colour combination requested for the underwater creatures were pink and purple instead of red and orange, I love it! Must say that the pink lobster and purple starfish are my favourite 🙂

Bear, Bunny & Puppy Cupcake

These are Vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting with animals character, Aiko’s order for Yulia’s 5th birthday party.

Had fun creating these ones, I’ve got my daughter helping me out with the facial details on the Puppy and Bear cupcake, she’s got great eye for details, my little artist. It’s my first time creating a fuzzy bear on an individual cupcake, I love the fur texture!  On the other hand, the puppy is my daughter favourite, apparently she loves it best because I put red heart pins on their ears ❤

For the grown ups at the party Aiko ordered orange poppy seed cupcakes with buttercream frosting, to match it with the girlie birthday party theme (check out the pink and purple cupcake liners!) I alternate the swirl frosting with candied orange peel and silver non pareil.
